If you're suffering from heartburn, or even the much more serious GERD, you may be able to free yourself from it by merely altering your life. Taking prescription drugs could be a final recourse if you try these small changes first.
It is common to suffer from acid reflux before bed, so make a decision not to eat later in the evening. Do your best to finish eating a few hours before you head to bed. If you enjoy snacking at night, it is time to consider putting a stop to that habit.
What you choose to eat can be as important as the time you eat when it comes to reducing heartburn. Foods that are acid-forming will make it more easy to get acid reflux. Juice (orange juice is a good example), caffeinated drinks, and alcohol are drinks that are often better avoided.
You may think that some of your favorite dishes are OK, but they will boost acid creation. Foods that contain high fat, such as candy, and hot foods incorporating peppers will induce heartburn. Most Italian dishes, because they contain tomato sauce, will easily set off your acid reflux, so enjoy these meals in tinier servings.
Another element in staying clear from acid reflux symptoms is to limit the amount of food that you enjoy. Cut back on how much food you are consuming. If you end up excessively stuffed, the food that you have eaten will get forced upwards into the esophagus, which will often make your heartburn more intensified.
